Serotune's product candidates are a capital-efficient opportunity to bring a clinically validated, regulatory-supported therapy for chronic pain and fatigue-related disorders to market quickly.
Investment highlights
Executive summary
Known active substances, human efficacy data already in hand and encouraging regulatory feedback – six reasons why this programme carries less risk than a new chemical entity.
Human efficacy data
Data available from two clinical studies in patients.
Novel mechanism of action
Addresses central serotonin deficiency – so far not adequately treated.
Known active substances

Ser01
Serotonin enhancer
Serotonin and the CNS
One mechanism behind many chronic disorders
A shared pathophysiological mechanism may underlie several chronic disorders. Reduced central serotonin availability maps onto chronic pain, low mood, fatigue and disturbed sleep – a deficiency that today's therapies do not correct at its cause.
Serotonin modulates pain processing, mood, drive and sleep.
Central 5-HT deficiency and the symptom clusters associated with it.
Product concept
Precursor plus degradation inhibitor
01
The new – and patented – idea is to administer the 5-HT precursors that can cross the blood-brain barrier together with a degradation inhibitor.
02
The inhibitor raises precursor concentrations at the blood-brain barrier and defuses the pharmacokinetic problems that limit the precursors on their own.
03
Relevant precursor concentrations thus reach the brain and can correct the central 5-HT deficiency.
Transport of the 5-HT precursors across the blood-brain barrier, with and without a degradation inhibitor.
Indications
An enormous unmet need
Millions of patients live with the debilitating consequences of central 5-HT deficiency – and with inadequate treatment options.
Fibromyalgia
Lead indication
A chronic disorder of central pain processing with widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance and mood symptoms.
Diagnostics
Platelet 5-HT as a surrogate marker
Compelling clinical data on platelet 5-HT content as a surrogate for disorders with central 5-HT deficiency.
Platelets in peripheral blood and serotonergic neurons in the brain show clear parallels – with respect to:
01
Morphology
02
Biochemistry and metabolism of 5-HT
03
Uptake kinetics at the plasma membrane
04
Inhibitory effects on 5-HT uptake
05
Granular 5-HT storage and how other substances interact with it
06
Receptors on the outer cell membrane
07
Comparable effects of receptor antagonists and agonists

Investigational
Ser01, Ser02 and T-5HT are investigational products. They are not approved by any regulatory authority, their safety and efficacy have not been established, and they are not available outside clinical studies. The content of this page is not medical advice.
Regulatory backing
Positive scientific advice from the German BfArM.
Large market potential
Fibromyalgia and chronic pain across a wide range of conditions.
Diagnostic upside
Platelet 5-HT content as a surrogate marker of the central deficiency.
The available human efficacy data are convincing.
03
Known active substances – low risk of toxicity issues and of difficulties in pharmaceutical development.
04
Encouraging regulatory feedback from the German BfArM is already in hand.
05
Large market opportunities across several distinct indications.
06
Clear unmet medical need in central serotonin deficiency.
07
Experienced management team able to bring this project to market quickly.
08
Additional potential from the companion diagnostic.
Ser02
Next-generation serotonin enhancer
Diagnostics
T-5HT
Diagnostic test – platelet 5-HT
Development status per Serotune's portfolio overview, as of August 2026. Bar length indicates progress within the respective phase.
Chronic pain
Second indication
Dysfunction of central pain-control systems amplifies pain and lets it persist long after the initial injury.
Long COVID
Further indication
Persistent symptoms after SARS-CoV-2 infection that overlap with ME/CFS, including fatigue, post-exertional symptom exacerbation, cognitive dysfunction and sleep disturbance.
Drafts of the indication pages. Further indications will follow.
Established methods for determining platelet 5-HT content, uptake and release exist – but have so far rarely been used to characterise a central 5-HT deficiency.
Platelets mirror serotonergic neurons in morphology, 5-HT metabolism, uptake and storage.
